Earlier this week, I was in a bit of a funk. When I woke up I could feel my energy wasn’t quite what I wanted or needed it to be for the day ahead and while I desperately wanted to hit snooze and skip my workout, I didn’t. I got up, got dressed and trudged down the stairs.
My mind wasn’t in the best place, but I knew if I moved my body I’d feel at least a little bit better. As I was thinking about how I didn’t feel great and how I really didn’t want to work out (blah, blah, blah) I heard a little voice in the back of my mind ask me this question…
How do you WANT to feel?
I want to feel energized, inspired, excited and generally a lot better than I was currently feeling. (Listen it was early and I didn’t have a lot of words in my pre-caffeinated state).
Then the voice came back with…
So, what are you going to do about it?
Apparently my inner voice was completely over my BS. Hmmmf! I had some choice words for that little voice, but the truth is…I needed that little kick in the ass.
You see, I’d been feeling all out of sorts over a seemingly small thing that didn’t go as I had hoped yesterday and here I was allowing it to carry over into another day?! I had a choice to make. I could stay in the low mood and low vibe I woke up in or I could change it. Those two questions above are the reason I was able to change it. They brought my awareness back to my personal power.
So…I did my workout and pushed myself a bit harder than I normally would. I showered and listened to an inspiring podcast. I did a bit of reading, journaling and listened to another audio that reminded me that when things don’t go as planned it’s often because something better is on the way.
Within about 2 hours my entire mindset had shifted, but if I’m honest, it only took a few minutes for me to choose to feel better.
These two questions are powerful and can be used any day at any time. You can use them when you wake up grumpy or when you find yourself annoyed with traffic. Use them when your boss ticks you off or when your kids are fighting and you just need a little peace. Use them when you feel great and you are looking to milk it and feel even better. Use them whenever and where ever you need them.
I’ll be honest, I don’t always know where that little voice comes from nor do I always like her tone. But I am forever grateful she is there to help keep me in line and she reminds me who I am and the power I have. That little voice is the reason I’m able to keep going, growing and sharing with you.
So, give the questions a try and let me know how it goes. Remember, YOU always have the power to shift how you want to feel the question is…what are you going to do about it?
