Today, I want to share with a little mind-hack that will help you get a better handle on all things mindset & hopefully support you in shifting your thoughts & beliefs faster than ever.
The mind-hack boils down to this…
Blame it on your brain.
Your brain (aka your mind) is a really amazing tool when it’s working with & for you, but it can also be a pain in the butt sometimes because it’s…
– Lazy- It wants to use as little energy as possible to understand & process the world around it. It uses shortcuts, old stories & thought patterns (that we all have been practicing out entire lives) more than it is willing to look for another way.
-Like a helicopter parent- Anything that is outside of your norm or uncomfortable is often deemed as dangerous. To combat this danger, it will get your entire body up in a tizzy with anxiety, fear & racing thoughts about why this thing you are thinking of doing is absolutely a terrible idea. It screams “danger” at virtually everything that is new because it’s trying to “keep you safe”.
-Always looking for problems- It’s not that your brain *wants* 99 problems, but it is often trying to protect you from the potential problems that could occur by hyper-focusing on them under the guise that it can find a solution to them all. (It can’t but it’s sure going to try.) Unfortunately, it never really gets to the “solution” phase of things so your mind just spins & spirals out of control.
–Convinced it “just doesn’t know”- It is convinced it doesn’t know the how, who, what or the path forward & these thoughts are often enough to keep us stuck where we are because we start to believe it too. It wants a full-proof, safe & secure plan with multiple back-ups before it is generally ready to take a step forward.
-Busy- It’s busy doing all of the above the majority of our lives and it will continue to do so unless we learn to work with our brain/mind & understand it’s confusing (yet good intentioned) ways.
And it just so happens that mindset & energy work (the two things I will talk about until the cows come home) is the key.
So I guess the mind-hack is really this…
Blame it on your brain AND interrupt it’s nonsense when it’s not working for you.
When you understand that your brain is just going to do what it does (everything I listed above), then you don’t have to get caught up in the stories, fears, & other nonsense in conjures up. You have the opportunity to interrupt the pattern to shift & change your story, the meaning & weight you give to any circumstance & choose differently.
Different thoughts & beliefs.
Different energy & actions.
Different stories & practices.
And you do all of that more consistently, effectively & powerfully when you do the mindset & energy work consistently & with accountability.
Mindset is so much more than just thinking “happy thoughts” & saying a few mantras here & there. It’s deep work that requires attention, focus, consistently & often accountability.
??? Can you do this work on your own & see results…YES you can & you probably already are.
??? Can you choose to invest in yourself & expedite said results…YES & you will be blown away by the outcomes.
As always, the choice is yours to make.
Choose your own mindset adventure & know that if you are someone who has done some of this work already & you’re eager to see what else is possible for you, it might be time for the level-up.
So, if you’re doing the mindset work & interrupting the brain doing what it does…keep going.
And if you’re not, this is your sign to get busy.
Remember, you are more powerful than you know & you already have so much that is working for you.
You are so much closer to your breakthrough moment than you realize & a few mindset tweaks are just the thing to take you over the edge. <3
