Happy Friday …
I hope you have had a great week and are looking forward to an even better weekend. This week has been…challenging to say the least. While I usually share my insights after I’ve learned the lesson and have moved through it, I thought this week I’d share with you some of the things I’m moving through…while I’m moving through them.
Ready?
Friday 5: Moving, Mercury & Moments…
1. Moving…
Moving has always been a challenge for me with so many moving parts and things to get organized. And since we are a military family we move quite a bit. This time however has proven to be a bit tricky with so many things up in the air…not to mention trying to move in the midst of a pandemic AND with Mercury in retrograde. This is our biggest move yet and feeling the “hurry up and wait” energy in a big way. Ultimately I’m struggling a bit with the uncertainty on top of uncertainty. My way through it? I am still figuring that out, but one thing is for sure, I have no choice but to take it one day at a time.
2. Mercury…
I’ve always said I don’t typically blame the planets for what’s going on, unless of course the energy fits and friends…it fits big time right now. While it feels like we are being forced to move in slow motion regarding a pretty urgent matter (our move), I was reflecting on the fact that we have no choice but to do it while Mercury (and 5 other planets!!) are in retrograde. (So, if you don’t know much about Mercury and what can happen when it goes retrograde, here’s some info that explains it.) I thought about our last move and all the chaos that came with it (keys didn’t work, couldn’t get in contact with property management to get a new key, no water, and multiple other issues) and got curious. Sure enough, Mercury was in retrograde during that move and it was a doozy. So my plan for this one? Double check all paperwork, prepare for the unexpected & again…try to take it one day at a time. Resisting it is futile and only makes it worse.
3. Little fires everywhere…
No, I’m not referring to the show on Hulu, although it’s a good one. I’m referring to the fact that over the past few weeks it’s felt like we are simply running around putting out unexpected fires, just as new ones pop up. We check a few things off the to-do list only to add 4 more in their place. As a result, I’ve been trying to again stay in the moment and deal with what is in front of me. I am certainly not always handling this well and only recently managed to remember that I get to choose how I respond to everything and that my mindset really does have power. (See how easily life can make us forget?) So, yes…taking it one day at a time, doing what I can while also immersing myself in my work with my clients because it’s the thing that instantly aligns and balances me.
4. Moments…
With all that is unfolding, I am keenly aware of the times when I just need a little moment to breathe and be. These moments usually lead to me sitting out on our back deck to take in a bit of nature and just breathe fresh air. It’s amazing how quickly and easily it calms me. I’m also finding myself more aware of what my body wants and needs. Sometimes it’s stepping outside to breathe and other times it’s running as fast as I can on the treadmill or taking a 20 minute nap to reset. Do I always “have time” to take these moments? No, but I find making the time when my mind and body need it is a non-negotiable so I do. I’m learning that while moments don’t always seem super impactful, they can make a huge difference especially now.
5. Momentum in creating change…
Momentum matters when it comes to energy and in the past, I have had a tendency to slow down and pull back on more long term things (my business growth, working out, new habits) when “life” happens around me and needs my immediate attention. And currently I am grappling with how to keep the momentum of activism and change going in and amongst everything else. How can I keep the conversations alive, continue to hold myself accountable, stay engaged and continue to take meaningful action on an ongoing basis? How can I keep the momentum going, do my part even when it’s hard? Honestly, I haven’t figured it all out yet. But one thing that comes to mind is choosing to keep the momentum going…period. It doesn’t mean I won’t falter or find myself caught up in my own white world from time-to-time, but like anything that is important to us, we just have to choose it. Choose it, practice it, remind ourselves of why it’s important and repeat. So that is where I am starting and I hope you do too.
So, this is where I am at the moment. Being, breathing and learning.
I hope you all are moving through this space with more ease and grace than I, but in the event that isn’t the case, I hope what I’ve shared above will help in some way.
Have a great weekend.P.S.
