I think we can all agree that the last two years have been anything but ‘normal’. Many of us have been riding the wave of uncertainty and unknowns through the pandemic, shutdowns, crazy weather due to global warming and just life in general. And while our hearts may crave the simplicity and normalcy of years past as we wait for the “right” time to take the leap into what we wish to create, the reality is this moment is all we have.
Like many people, back in 2020 I found myself waiting, delaying and putting off ideas, next steps and the like because I just needed some solid footing before moving forward. The chaos of 2020 quickly rolled over into 2021 and with it a whole slew of other “things” to manage.
Now, here we are just two short months away from another year with likely more “stuff” to move through and the question we all need to be asking is this…
How much longer are we willing to put “it” off?
“It” being whatever you’ve been wanting to change, transform and up-level but you’re waiting for the right time.
Rest assured this isn’t one of those “hurry up and do it” emails you likely get toward the end of every year. This is a message I really want to you to consider as you think about what you’ve been putting off in your life, not just in the past few months, but the past few years.
Maybe it’s your soul-sucking career that you’ve hated for years or the lack of confidence you feel in speaking your truth and creating more ease in your life.
Maybe it’s the move you’ve been waiting 15 years to make or that dream you’ve been aching to go after.
Maybe it’s having the courage to ditch the opinions of your family members so you can finally give yourself permission to live the life you came here to live.
Maybe it’s hiring a mentor or coach to support in going to the next level in your life.
Whatever “it” is for you…how much longer are you willing to put it off?
Last week I asked myself this very question as I’ve been grappling with taking my work to the next level. A client of mine asked me a few weeks ago “Why don’t more people know about you????” and it’s been replaying in my mind ever since.
And you know what I realized? It’s because in some ways I’ve been putting off what is necessary to go to the next-level because of one excuse or another. (My family needs me, I don’t have the time, maybe I should just wait…blah, blah, blah.)
Well, Friday all that changed when I made a solid (and scary) investment in my business that will challenge me to grow and go to the next level and beyond. (It’s already happening & I’m so excited to see where I end up this time next year!)
Here’s the thing…the “right” time doesn’t exist. It’s “right” simply when you decide it is and if the last two years have taught us anything it’s that we can’t afford to wait around for things to return to normal or for life to slow down so we can focus.
If you want to change, create, transform or grow something in your life, you need to DECIDE now is the time.
The ‘right’ time and ‘right’ decision will feel both exciting & a bit scary, especially if it requires some sort of investment of your time, energy and money. That mixture of feelings tends to create a sense of accountability and challenge for you to step up and actually make the changes you say you want to make.
This is why it’s helpful to have a coach/mentor supporting you and why having someone like me in your back pocket keeping you focused, challenged and doing exactly what you intended to do will get you results that are better than you ever imagined. It doesn’t have to be painful, but that life you want to create lies just outside of your comfort zone.
So, again I ask…how much longer are you willing to put “it” off?
A week? A month? Another year? How about when you look back at your life in the next 5, what do you see?
Are you going to be wishing you took the leap even when you were afraid? Or are you going to be content as you continue to wait for the “right” time?
When I confronted myself with that question, I already knew I needed to take the leap. The question is will you?
I guarantee when you do, you won’t recognize the version of you that is floating into 2022 with more confidence, belief and a handful of seemingly magical shifts that happened much faster than you ever thought possible.
Mindset is the cheat code to achieving everything you desire.
