I have a story to share with a little nugget of wisdom I hope will help you look at your life and the things you are doing in a new way for the upcoming new year.
So, this past weekend my family and I were busy cleaning up our front yard in preparation for putting up our Christmas decorations (lights, icicles, blow-up Santa…all the fun stuff). My wife got started early before anyone else had gotten up and when I went out to join her she was using a handy little device that sucks up all the leaves like a vacuum.
Now, this isn’t the first time I’d seen this tool. We actually bought it many years ago when we had a much larger yard, but we hadn’t used it since then. The more I thought about it, the more I realized we had actually cleaned/cleared the yard the “hard” way for the last 5-6 years even though we had this magical tool in the garage that would cut our yard work in half.
But why???
Logically it didn’t make sense, but then I remembered how this magical tool functions as a sort of vacuum as well as a leaf blower. In order to make it transform into a vacuum, you have to use another attachment, including the bag. And here’s where it gets interesting…
I assumed putting the new attachment on would be difficult to do so instead of figuring it out, I kept doing things the “hard” way because in my mind it seemed the “easiest”.
The more I thought about this concept and how silly it sounds (I mean we are talking yard work here), I realized there were lots of other ways this has shown up in my life.
- When I first started my business, I was determined to figure it all out by myself (even though it was hard) because I thought it would be far more difficult to get support.
- When I created my website, it was a bit of a piecemeal creation I did alone because I thought it would be far too hard or damn near impossible for me to afford to have someone do it for me.
There are many other examples, but it all boils down to me limiting myself in a BIG way based on inaccurate thoughts, beliefs and assumptions.
Are you doing things the hard way simply because it seems the easiest for you?
Sometimes getting to the ‘easy’ way is a matter of following the nudge of your intuition, asking for support, or asking ‘how’ you can afford to be/have/do whatever it is you are seeking.
No matter how you get to the “easy” way the first step is understanding that there is indeed an easy or easier way of getting to what you want/desire. (If you follow Abraham-Hicks, they call this the path of least resistance.)
So my question to you today is this..
What are you allowing to get in your way?
What thought, belief, fear, assumption etc. is in the way of YOU getting to the path of least resistance for all that you desire?
Whatever, it is…isn’t it time you took care of it? Aren’t you tired of always doing things the ‘hard’ way?
I don’t know about you but I’m welcoming all the ease, grace and flow that life has to offer me in 2020 and beyond because why not?
Sure, the “hard” way still works, but I assure you it takes a lot more time and energy to get to where you are going than if you opened yourself up to the easier way.
So that’s it for my little nugget of wisdom today. I hope it is helpful for you as you move forward on your path! Remember, lessons can come up in even the most peculiar of places if you’re open to it.
Stay open friends and welcome in the EASE that life has to offer you!
